'Can't afford to experiment with women'

We don't really mean experiment. But this quote in context insinuated that "Tabaksblad Code (the recently launched Corporate Governance Code) has raised the standards for non-executive Board members, so that - although we pay lip service to the idea that diversity on Boards is a good idea - we are not going to 'experiment' by appointing women to Supervisory Boards. The risk is simply is too big."

The underlying assumption in the above is that women are not qualified for supervisory positions. This is unfortunately a perception deeply rooted in the minds of many decision makers. The truth is quite the opposite: top women have demonstrated to have great added value as Supervisory Directors and non-executive Board Members.

Diversity for an organization- especially at the top - is of strategic importance and leads to improved performance.
