'We go only for quality' Most companies looking to fill top management positions will tell you: "We don't care if the best candidate is a man or a woman, we go only for quality." This then refers to the relevant background, experience, vision and leadership skills. These are all qualities that top women also possess. However, since there are fewer women than men in top management positions and these women are less visible; many men are quick to jump to the easy conclusion that there are no qualified women. But finding the right woman for the job is possibly a question of doing a more thorough search, perhaps beyond the existing (male) networks. Or just a matter of perception. It is a bloody shame for both companies and their shareholders that the advantages of mixed gender management teams - i.e. improved creativity, innovation and efficiency - are not realized because management has neglected to appoint women to top positions.
Diversity for an organization- especially
at the top - is of strategic importance and leads to improved performance.
