Top business women exhort the Dutch Secretary of the Treasury
Give the new financial order the best possible start

More than 30 top Dutch women summon Wouter Bos, the Dutch Secretary of the Treasury to  include women in the process of reforming of the financial sector.

In a full page ad in the Dutch Financial Times newspaper on Tuesday October 21st, they argue the case for including women in the current decision making about new appointments to financial institutions' Boards. Diversity - men and women working inclusively - is a proven key success factor. The Dutch Secretary should not fill new slots with hurried appointments of men from the 'old boys' networks in business and politics.

The women hope that this action will  stimulate Wouter Bos to ensure that he is advised by a diverse group of top people about the reforms needed in the financial sector.
The underlying reasoning is that with more women in top positions, financial institutions  will be more fully aware of their societal responsibilities and that issues of trust and trustworthiness and sustainability will be given the attention they deserve.

One of the consequences of the nationalization and bail out of Dutch banks is that the government has gained the right to appoint new executive and non-executive Board members.  The Secretary of the Treasury Bos would be well advised to appoint a number of top women to the new boards. Bercan Günel, one of the initiators of the message to Bos and partner of executive search firm Woman Capital, elucidates: "The new financial sector will need new leadership. The current crisis is a chance for qualified women with leadership experience to add value by helping to restore trust and stability to the sector."
