A call on Wouter
Bos, the Dutch Secretary of the Treasury October 21st
2008
Give the new financial sector
the best possible start
Mistakes made in the past are no guarantee for
a better future. Quite to the contrary; we seem to have the ability
to make the same mistakes over and over. A reform of the financial
system that is now glaringly necessary should therefore be carried
out by the best teams of managers and leaders.
The current crisis in the financial sector demands
fundamental changes. These changes must be based on new values,
a new basis for trust and on transparent and balanced executive
appointments. We will need to call on all of the top talent
and knowledge in the industry, not just half.
We are convinced that more than ever the Dutch
financial sector needs well balanced executive teams in which men
and women with proven track records come together to face this challenge.
Diversity will greatly increase the chances of success.
Based on this vision we call on Mr Wouter Bos,
the Dutch Minister of Finance, not to initiate the necessary change
by hurried appointments of members of the ' old boys network' to
key positions, but to take advice from a team of top men and women
with independent views and reputations.
Give the new financial order the best possible
start.
Because everyone is benefitted when the future
of the financial sector is based on a clear understanding of its
societal role and impact. And everyone wants trust, trustworthiness
and sustainability to be re-established in the sector.
